Life as a Polyamorous Elders
with Kathy Labriola
(Season 3 | Episode 113)
[TESSA] So what happens as we get older? What happens to the libido? What about poly people? Do people become more open? Do they just maintain their relationships with multiple partners? Do they become more conservative sexually?
We consider these questions with our guest this week, Kathy Labriola.
We discuss the practical value of multiple partners later in life, finding your community, and our different views today vs. a generation before about poly lifestyles. Kathy is a wealth of information. Kathy also references a study completed by Jim Fleckenstein who was an early guest on our podcast. You can revisit that episode here: Jim Fleckenstein.
Here are a few links for us as we consider trends and behaviors on elder polyamory:
“Young People More Open to Polyamory”
- Whereas 28% of people who responded to the annual “Sex Census” by LELO said a polyamorous relationship would tick all their intimacy boxes, this figure rose to 38% among people aged 18 to 24.
- The number of polyamorous people in Canada is growing steadily, and many polyamorous people are of childbearing age and report living with children.
The Most Surprising Monogamy Vs Polyamory Statistics And Trends in 2023
- Participants in non-monogamous relationships reported higher levels of trust and lower levels of jealousy compared to their monogamous counterparts.
Kathy Labriola is a counselor, nurse, and hypnotherapist in private practice in Berkeley, California.
